If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you and what could be more challenging than an adventure halfway across the world? At Zeal, we’ve seen the power first-hand that adventure travel has to challenge teens in ways that leads to positive, personal growth. That’s why challenge is one of our guiding principles and a key factor in crafting all of our itineraries. So how exactly do we create challenge on our teen tours? Here are our two approaches:

Physical Challenge

The first and most exciting type of challenge available through adventure travel is physical. Why just see the sights when you can experience them by SCUBA diving, surfing, hiking, or ice climbing? From zip lining across the Hawaiian skies to scaling the famous Harbor Bay Bridge in Sydney, we push the limits in pursuit of extraordinary experiences that our participants will always remember. With Zeal, you never have to push yourself alone – our small and close-knit groups serve as personal cheering squads that will motivate, encourage, and support you every step of the way. Most importantly, we only choose excursion partners with the highest safety standards, ensuring that our adventurers and their parents can feel safe and comfortable throughout their travels.

Mental Challenge

The second method of challenge on our teen tours is all about the mind. Adventure travel is an incredible opportunity for teens to take their learning out of the classroom and into the real world. Striking up a conversation in a Costa Rican market becomes an opportunity to practice Spanish. Patrolling the beaches to spot wild sea turtles turns lessons in biology and wildlife conservation into action. And building homes for those in need with Habitat for Humanity is an opportunity for teens to gain important perspective on community, compassion, and teamwork. Even the first day of a teen tour is a social challenge in connecting and forming friendships with new peers, a skill that proves invaluable during those transitional first days of college.

Our participants often bring up challenge when reflecting on their trip because it has such a positive impact on them. By exposing our adventurers to both physical and mental challenge, we give them the opportunity to develop confidence, courage, perseverance, and empathy – traits that will serve them well throughout their lifetime. So if you’re up for the challenge this summer, don’t forget that your perfect adventure awaits at Zeal!
