Today in Alaska, the group was split into two groups. Some of us went ice climbing while the others went white water rafting.

The ice-climbing group started the day with a 2.5 mile hike towards Root Glacier geared up with crampons, ice climbing boots, and harnesses. Our guides explained how to safely walk on the ice and soon we were climbing. We learned how to properly use an ice axe and then all of us made our way up the ice wall. Quite quickly we decided that racing was the most efficient way to motivate us up the walls. We then moved on to a new climbing area where we were rappelled into a Moulin; it’s like a crevasse but it’s carved out with water. It was one of the highlights of the entire trip!

White water rafting was a fun and stress-free experience because of our awesome tour guides. Although some got a little wet while sitting in the front of the boat, others sat in the back and stayed dry. Nonetheless, everyone had a great time, but was very happy when they were reunited with the other half of team zeal. Once the ice climbers returned, we enjoyed a pad Thai dinner beside the river. We then enjoyed s’mores and said our nightly glums and glows around the fire. All in all, everyone had an amazing day, but it is safe to say that we are all exhausted.

That’s all for now,
