Australia Expedition Details

Our 3-week trip to Australia allows for a deep immersion into the country. Not only will you experience Sydney in its totality, but see parts of Australia most tourists don’t bother to get to. You’ll do a driving trek through Northern Territories, starting in the remote town of Alice Springs. Stop and swim at multiple hidden springs, Uluru Rock, and enjoy the wildlife at every glance. After you’ve had your fill in the outback, we end the trip on the coast, snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef and trekking through the Daintree Rainforest. Finish it all off volunteering with a local animal rehabilitation program.

Itinerary

Day 1, 2, and 3: Arrival and Forming

We all meet up at JFK airport, and depart together on a single group reservation. During our layover in L.A. we take time to do ice breakers and get to know each other. While we fly we cross the international dateline, propelling us into the future. Upon arrival, it’s the morning of June 26th! The group will head to our accommodations to settle in and freshen up. A morning arrival means we can hit the beach immediately and get rejuvenated after our flight.

Day 4: G'Day

Like every Zeal trip, the beginning is dedicated to getting to knowing each other, the trip, and amazing new location. Today we spend time learning more about each other while enjoying a city tour and sight seeing.

Day 5: Bondi to Coogee

In the morning we check out Bondi beach and the Coogee trail. There are plenty of spots along the walk for swim stops and photo ops. In the afternoon, we check out the world famous Sydney Opera House.

Day 6: Sydney Zoo

This zoo is home to hundreds of fascinating animals from kangaroos to Tasmanian devils. Learn about them all while exploring this incredible zoo.

Day 7: Harbor Bay Bridge

The bridge crossing over Harbor Bay is another iconic landmark, and is also our first stop for thrill. We have the chance to climb all the way to the top of the bridge, giving us unrivaled views of the city and Pacific Ocean.

Day 8-13: Overland Tour

After four days in Sydney, our adventure takes a turn to Northern Territory. We fly into the gateway town of Alice Springs where we begin our adventure in the Australian Outback. For the next five days, we tour with local guides in overland vehicles. The vehicles are as rugged as the landscape. Prepare for nights full of stars and days full of adventure.

Day 14: Travel to Cairns

After a late wake up and breakfast, we fly to the Northeast coastal city of Cairns. The city gains us access to the world’s largest reef, the Great Barrier Reef as well as the Daintree Rainforest.

Day 15: Rest Day

After our exciting adventure in the Australian Outback, it’s time to relax. Today we hit the beach and chill.

Day 16: The Great Barrier Reef

In the morning we climb aboard the boat that will take us to the world’s best snorkeling. On the ride out we learn about reef systems, marine biology and conservation, and receive our pre-snorkel briefing from the snorkel guides. Today is a day you will never forget!

Day 17: Daintree Rainforest

Today we explore the world’s oldest rainforest. During this four hour trek through the jungle you have the chance to see rare flora and fauna, and hear from local guides about everything from legends to geology.

Day 18-19: Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Center

Outside of Cairns is a sea turtle rehabilitation center. We spend two days volunteering our time with the center, learning about marine conservation and lending a helping hand.

Day 20: The Home Stretch

Wow! Today is our last full day here in Australia. After three weeks of bucket list adventures, we spend the day packing, picking up last minute gifts and mementos, and celebrating our time together with our final dinner.

Day 21: Travel Home

It’s hard to believe the trip is coming to a close! Today we return home, flying stateside with our trip leaders and friends.
